Do you ever look at the lines on a map, and try to picture what they’d be in real life?

I love topographical maps. The way the curving contour lines get closer as they climb higher speaks to me of peaks to be explored. I played with the idea of this, adding images of tree lines and different textures to bring the simple lines to life.

This has all been done the good old fashioned way! I carved my designs onto a printing block, using a traditional relief printing press and oil & water-based inks.
